History of The Exciting Gospel Warriors

The Exciting Gospel Warriors was form in 1981 in Tampa, Fl. It was a thought by two God fearing men. The late U.S Army Command Sergeant Major Rudy Tolbert and Mitchell Anderson. David Bell sang with The Gospel Revivals with George Shivers and Arthur Hall. They all gathered with the addition of Cadillac West. Mitchell Anderson thought of the name The Exciting Gospel Warriors due the late Army Command Sergeant Major. Rudy Tolbert was still in the military. The group adopted the colors Black and Yellow of Blake Senior High School that they all once attended. These men took a quest to save lost souls. They travelled all over America spreading the good news by song. Their first recording was a 45 record was done in Paul Hayes Recording Studio in Tampa, Fl. Later, they ventured to Moving Water Recording Studio in Brandon Fl, under the Producer of Rochester Jacobs. They were contracted with Surfine Record in Benton N.C. In 1982 they recorded their first single: “If I Had One More Day”, and “Thank You For Carrying Me”. 1988 They made an album “Nobody But You”. 1995 They made another album “Devine Nature” which made the BMI chart #55116. The Exciting Gospel Warriors of Tampa has sang with gospel greats. The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Luther Barnes and the Jubilees, Doc McKenzie, Shirley Caesar, The Jackson Southernaires, Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC, Keith (Wonderboy) Johnson, Gospel Keynotes, and many others. They also appeared on TV on the Bobby Jones Gospel Hour, Mid Georgia Fellowship TV cable station in Atlanta, Ga., also appeared locally in 2019 on BayNews 9 ‘s Talk of the Town Segment for Black History Month. In December 2019, The Exciting Warriors released a cd call “He Did It”. Then return next December 2020 record “Say Amen”. Today two there are two of the original members Arthur Hall and George Shivers. Under the leadership of George Shiver as President. The Exciting Gospel Warriors still praising the lord all over the land and in various venues. Such as. Churches, The Black Heritage Festivals, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Celebrations, The Famous Florida’s Strawberry Festival, James Cleveland Musical Convention Workshops, Religious celebrations and volunteering their talent to Metropolitan Ministries. The Gospel Warriors today has added new members in the vocal section and the band, as they continue the journey, they set out years ago. The current members and jobs in the group as follows: George Shivers – President (Lead Singer) Arthur Hall- (Vocal) Treasure and Dress Coordinator. Derrick Chisolm – (Vocal) Booking Manager, Secretary. Sylvester Pinkney – (Vocal) Rev. Ike Bunton – (Vocal) Chaplin/ Senior Spiritual Advisor. The Band is as follows: William Morrell - Lead - Guitarist. Marcus Edwards – Bass Guitar. Eddie Jackson – Organist.
